Immigrant Box
Immigrant Box is a visual and emotional exploration of the U.S. immigration experience, rooted in my decade-long journey. Using actual government documents and naturalization forms, the project critiques the dehumanizing nature of the system and the emotional weight it places on individuals. A 529-inch continuous scroll of paperwork housed in a moving box symbolizes both the physical and metaphorical act of migration.
Visually resembling quilted fabric, the work highlights the fragmented yet collective stories of immigrants. Blanks on the forms are left exposed, with color-coded narratives layered throughout, representing diverse voices navigating this process. By merging official documentation with personal storytelling, Immigrant Box humanizes a rigid system and invites audiences to confront the realities behind it.
